HEI Funding Applications now open

Funding for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for the 2026-2027 academic year officially opened for applications on Thursday 21 May, at a meeting between PPLI/Languages Connect and partners in universities nationwide. The gathering provided an opportunity to celebrate the ongoing achievements and impact of the partnership, and to discuss shared goals for the coming year.

Representatives from 11 universities exchanged ideas and shared how HEI Funding has been used in their institutions in previous years. They also gained further insight into the range of supports available to them under the Languages Connect awareness campaign. Attendees had the opportunity to share how they used the funding, as well as getting further insight into the supports available from Languages Connect.

Applications for HEI Funding for the 2026/2027 academic year are now open. Funding is provided to HEIs for the promotion of language learning in support of key goals within Languages Connect: Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026, under the Languages Connect Awareness Campaign.

The funding is available to support any HEI that offers foreign languages. It is to be used to help promote the importance of languages to primary pupils and post-primary students, as well as encourage students to study languages at third level as a major, minor or elective.
