Language Pilot Upskilling Scheme
The growth in interest in foreign language learning in primary has been supported by the publication of the Primary Curriculum Framework which will introduce modern foreign languages (MFL) within the primary school setting in a redeveloped Primary Language Curriculum.
With this in mind, a range of upskilling courses are becoming available for primary teachers to engage with. Details of some of these can be found below including EPV days-approved summer upskilling courses in modern foreign languages for primary teachers, beginning in July 2024.

Summer Courses (EPV days-approved courses)
Eligibility: All registered primary teachers
- Course providers: Monaghan Education Centre (Spanish), Wexford Education Centre (French, German, Italian and Spanish) and more.
- Mode of delivery: Face to face, online and blended learning.
- Languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish.

Further Language Upskilling Opportunities:
Following on from the language upskilling pilot in the 2023/2024 school year, when over 140 teachers availed of the opportunity to upskill in a foreign language, the Department of Education has made more funding available for the roll out of a language upskilling scheme. The scheme will be administered by us at PPLI and will offer a variety of courses throughout the school year.

Eligibility: Primary teachers delivering Say Yes to Languages in their school:
- Course providers: Cultural institutes and any other approved providers as identified by the teachers.
- Mode of delivery: In-person, online, and blended
- Languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese.
- Fee: Reimbursement of fees and expenses.
- Status: Registration for the 2024/2025 academic year will open in September
