HEI Funding
HEI Funding
Funding is available for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) who offer language courses at third level. This funding is to help HEIs promote the importance of languages to second level students and to encourage them to either study languages, or study languages in combination with other subjects. This is part of the awareness raising campaign, Languages Connect which is a key action in the implementation of Languages Connect: Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026.
Many initiatives have already been funded through this scheme including sending student ambassadors to schools, language weeks, final year third level students giving tutorials to final year second level students, competitions for both primary and post-primary schools and award ceremonies, open days, promotional videos, events for teachers, vlogs from Irish students on Erasmus, and awareness raising for new language degrees.
To apply for funding in 2023, complete the HEI Funding Application Form and submit by deadline: Friday, 26th May 2023
Please read HEI Funding FAQs below for full details, terms and requirements.

MFL colleagues, both within your own department, and any other relevant department/campus in your HEI, must be made aware of the funding so that there is an opportunity for all of them to contribute to the proposal.
Promotion of events, competitions, etc is essential. Please promote your events in local papers, etc as well as on your website and social media.
Promotion via social media of events, competitions, etc. which have been funded must go out on an official HEI account i.e. main HEI account or Languages Department account. Promoting it on a personal account is a bonus but not adequate. All posts must tag Languages Connect @langsconnect_ie
Any funded events, competitions, flyers, etc. must include the Languages Connect logo as well as the HEI logo. Please confirm with the PPLI project officer that the logo has been used correctly before going to print.
High resolution photos from events, etc should be sent to the PPLI project officer soon after the event.
