Fun Activity-Based Language Camps

Language Summer Camps

2024 will be the sixth year of heritage and lesser-taught language summer camps funded by Languages Connect. There have been heritage language camps in Polish, Romanian and Lithuanian and lesser-taught language camps in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Italian over the last few years.

Coordinators

This year we have another call for summer camp coordinators, the deadline for applications is Wednesday 10th April 2024. The two-week camps are for post-primary students attending a post-primary school in Ireland. They support and inspire students through a combination of fun, creativity, and learning.
There will be an online information meeting for potential applicants on the evening of Thursday 7th March 2024. To register, please contact nellie.tattersall@ppli.ie

Polish Summer Camp

Please submit your application, along with your budget, programme and educational curriculum via this link.

The camps are two weeks, Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm.

There is a maximum of one full-day outing per camp.

The camps are fully funded however students must pay a minimum €100 deposit on booking which will be refunded in full at the end of the camp, providing they have attended every day and have arrived on time and stayed until the end.

Camp coordinators are responsible for every aspect of the camp. Languages Connect may visit the summer camp. A time and date will be agreed in advance with the coordinator.

Languages Connect require photos from the camp for future promotional purposes, and they may send a video crew to film the camp and/or a photographer to take photos. If any filming is to take place, the time and date will be agreed in advance with the coordinator.

Please allow one administrator per camp, and €1,000 per administrator. We would suggest that the camp administrator manages the following pre-programme, during the programme, and post-programme responsibilities:

• Selection of an appropriate site with sufficient space for activities
• Liaising with Languages Connect
• Managing student applications
• Communicating with parents
• Making purchases (materials, food, equipment, office supplies, first-aid kit)
• Checking students in and out at the beginning and end of each day
• Ensuring that equipment is set up in classes and for activities
• Copying and distributing materials to instructors
• Managing transportation for field trips
• Managing budgets, revenue, and expenses
• Ensuring relevant policies, insurance, garda vetting, child protection guidelines, etc. are in place.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 10th April 2024. All applicants will be informed whether or not their application was successful by Friday 19th April 2024.

For teachers hired post January 2011 there is an unqualified rate and a qualified rate. These rates are as per DES scales and are available on the ASTI website.

There is a minimum of 12 students.

There is a maximum of €500 per student available. Funding covers everything except lunches. Applicants will receive 50% of their budget before the summer camp and the balance after the summer camp.
