Spanish Competition Winners 2024
A week in Spain!
Congratulations to Erin Shoenmaker and Olunor Dede Ubogu and their Spanish teacher Olan Geaney from Ashton Comprehensive School, Cork who were awarded first place in this year’s Spanish video competition. The lucky team have won a one-week language scholarship in Castilla y León, Spain, this summer, with flights and accommodation included.
Entrants were tasked with producing a two minute video in Spanish “set” in a medieval castle in Castilla y León and were rewarded for creativity and cultural knowledge, as well as language competence.
Ceara Dwyer, Sammy Okodugha and their teacher Rebecca Mooney from Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone won second place while Ciara O’Toole, Niamh Collins and their teacher Ms. Sheridan from Lusk Community College, Dublin came third. Both teams have won a one-week language scholarship in Castilla y León this summer, with accommodation included.

Spanish Ambassador Ion de la Riva Guzmán de Frutos presented the winning teams with their awards at a special reception at the Spanish embassy. The competition is a collaboration between Languages Connect, Consejería de Educación de la Embajada de España en Dublin, La Junta de Castilla y León, and the Spanish Tourist Office in Dublin, with representatives of each in attendance at the prize giving. Congratulations to the winners!
