Multicultural Day 2026 Celebrations

Multicultural Day 2026 Celebrations

Over 200 students from the Leaving Certificate Language Classes in Dublin gathered at Larkin Community College on March 7th to celebrate the third Multicultural Day, an event that showcases the rich diversity and cultural backgrounds represented across the classes. The event was attended by PPLI staff, students, and the twelve Development Officers who teach at the Dublin location.

Organised by Post Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI), the day opened with a welcome address from Dr. Kenia Puig I Planella, PPLI Teaching and Learning Manager, who commended students for their dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to language learning.

The celebrations began with a lively warmup activity of Janken (rock, paper, scissors) led by 6th Year Japanese students. This was followed by a language tandem activity facilitated by Dagmara Furman, PPLI associate and Polish Development Officer in Dublin. Students exchanged phrases from the languages they study and shared cultural stories, traditions, and insights, creating a vibrant cross-cultural learning experience.

Throughout the day, students from all language classes took part in a range of performances, including singing, dancing, karaoke, solo guitar, and traditional dance. A highlight for many was the impressive spread of traditional snacks, homemade bread, pastries, and drinks, prepared and shared by students and Development Officers.

Many students remarked that Multicultural Day is one of the events they look forward to most each year – a chance to proudly share their heritage, connect with others, and use their languages in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

The commitment and enthusiasm of the PPLI Development Officers, who teach and support the classes, played a key role in the success of the event, contributing at every stage of planning and participation.

Now in its third year, Multicultural Day continues to celebrate the diversity and multilingualism of the Leaving Certificate Language Classes. We look forward to working with students and Development Officers to make next year’s event even more memorable.
