Language Summer Camps 2026
Language Summer Camps 2026 wrap-up
This summer PPLI funded and visited three language summer camps across Ireland, featuring three languages – Chinese, Italian and Korean. Approximately 60 students attended these lesser-taught language camps in a local university. Each camp ran for a duration of two weeks, from 10am – 3pm every day and gave students the opportunity to learn and connect, not just with a new language but also with new cultures, foods, music and friends.
Chinese at University College Dublin
Students had a fantastic two weeks with creative, passionate and enthusiastic teachers and made new friends with similar interests. At the Chinese summer camp in UCD, students learned basic words and phrases in Chinese, learned to read and write a new alphabet. They also did crafts and calligraphy, cooking, a Chinese tea ceremony, singing, music, dancing and much more!
Italian at University College Cork
At the Italian summer camp in UCC, students spent their time exploring current Italian fashion, the history and geography of the country, the etiquette that goes with eating, and learned about the country’s economy as well as its culture. There were interesting trips – to a Sicilian café, where students ordered Sicilian specialities in Italian, as well as to a company that sells Italian race-inspired cars.
Korean in University College Dublin
Students participating in the Korean summer camp paid a visit to the Korean ambassador’s residence and spent time singing, dancing, playing sports and dressing up in traditional outfits.
This has been the eighth year of heritage and lesser-taught language summer camps funded by Languages Connect. Students had a fantastic two weeks with creative, passionate and enthusiastic teachers and made new friends with similar interests.
