Language Mats

To support pupils with different home languages in their classroom interactions and encourage language exploration in primary schools, we have devised a series of language mats. Click the relevant link to view the series in English or in Irish.

This resource contains suggested activities, designed to help schools and teachers foster a positive climate in which different languages and cultures can be explored and awareness around these languages and cultures can be raised. Language and Languages in the Primary School

These newly revised guidelines are designed to help principals and teachers respond to the challenges of the Primary Language Curriculum. They encourage a communicative approach to the teaching of Irish, explain how you can include the home languages of EAL pupils in classroom activities, and take account of the addition of modern foreign language education to stages 3 and 4 of the curriculum. This easy-to-use resource also offers practical suggestions for the four stages of the curriculum
