Say Yes to Languages Kicks off for Fifth Year

Primary Module Continues for Fifth Year

Term one of Say Yes to Languages kicks off this week, commencing what will be the fifth year of the language learning module for primary school pupils .

Over 1,300 schools will take part during the 2025/2026 school year, with 700 schools participating in term one which runs from now until February 6th.

The remainder of the schools will participate across term two which will run from February 23rd to June 19th 2026. For the 2025/26 school year, the module is available to pupils in 5th and 6th class and delivered over the ten-week term.

This school year marks the beginning of the second phase of Say Yes to Languages, which focuses on preparing for the integration of modern foreign languages into the redeveloped Primary Language Curriculum. This phase will include additional professional development opportunities for teachers to upskill in foreign languages, as well as provision of grants to support the hiring of visiting teachers or tutors in the short term.

Many of last year’s Say Yes to Languages participants have reapplied to take part in 2025/2026, and pupils are excited to continue their language learning journey.

Over the past four years of Say Yes to Languages, participating schools have introduced a variety of languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, ISL, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Tamil, and Ukrainian.
