One of the most fascinating countries in Central Europe, Poland has a heritage like no other. Deepen your understanding of the country’s culture and language during Say ‘Yes’ to Polish week.
Part of the Say ‘Yes’ to Languages campaign, Say ‘Yes’ to Polish Week follows a whole summer of fun. Since June, students have looked at nine diverse languages, from Spanish to Japanese. With a whole host of activities lined up, this week is going to be just as interesting.
What’s happening during Say ‘Yes’ to Polish week?
Quizzes, cooking tutorials, vocabulary boosters… There are so many different things going on during Say ‘Yes’ to Polish week.
Wondering why you should take the time to polish up on this beautiful language? If you or your family are native speakers, brushing up is a great way to stay connected to the active Polish community in Ireland and further afield.
Even if you have no immediate connection to Poland, Polish could come in handy in the future. It’s an official language of the European Union and the country is home to a bustling beauty industry.
Gain new skills this Monday
Start off the week as you mean to continue with lots of excellent vocabulary basics today. You can learn different greetings and more essential everyday phrases.
Today you can also meet your Polish Language Ambassador Julia Rusin. A UCD student and native Polish speaker, she’ll guide you through the brilliant online activities of the week ahead.
Treat yourself on #TastyTuesday
Unreal dishes are the name of the game every #TastyTuesday and Say ‘Yes’ to Polish week gives us an especially satisfying virtual feast.
It’s time to put your cooking skills to the test. Get some new recipe inspiration with a focus on hearty dishes such as pierogi (dumplings), gołąbki (cabbage rolls), bigos (hunter stew), zurek (sour rye soup), krokiety (croquettes) and barszcz (beetroot soup).
#WellnessWednesday ventures into the great outdoors
#WellnessWednesday is all about getting a breath of fresh air this week. People in Poland take full advantage of their lush landscapes with a strong outdoors culture.
On this virtual pitstop to the picturesque Polish countryside, learn all about forest barbecues and pick up key outdoorsy lingo too.
Examine the Polish beauty industry on Thursday
You might be surprised to learn that Poland is the sixth largest cosmetics market in Europe. With approximately 400 manufacturers, the Polish beauty industry is worth around €3.85bn. So if you’re curious about working in cosmetics, Polish is a useful language.
This Thursday you can also get a sneak peak of the Languages Connect Polish summer camp in Cork. Find out how students brush up on their language skills and delve into traditional crafts and culture.
As well as that, you can find out a little bit more about Polish Language Ambassador Julia. She’s going to do a Q&A, talking all about life as a multilingual person and her Erasmus experiences.
