HEI Funding Applications now open
HEI Funding for the 2024/2025 academic year was officially launched on Thursday 11th April at the annual Languages Connect and HEI gathering. The day looked to celebrate the achievements of the partnership, as well as discuss goals for the year ahead. Attendees had the opportunity to share how they have previously used the funding, as well as get further insight into the supports available from Languages Connect
Funding is provided to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for the promotion of language learning in support of key goals within the Languages Connect Strategy: Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026, under the Languages Connect Awareness Campaign
The funding is available to support any HEI that offers foreign languages. It is to be used to help promote the importance of languages and encourage students to either study languages, or languages in combination with other subjects, at third level.
How to Apply
To apply for funding for the 2024/2025 academic year , complete the HEI Funding Application Form and submit by: Friday, 31st May 2024
The funding can be used to support greater uptake on any undergraduate or post-graduate college courses that include a foreign languages component, or promote the value of taking a foreign language in college. Ways this can be achieved could include:
- Partaking in #ThinkLanguages Week, a foreign language awareness campaign for TY students which takes place nationally each year. This year, activity must take place during the week of Monday 18 to Friday 22 November. We encourage HEIs to spend approximately half of their allocated funding on activities in support of #ThinkLanguages
- Providing Student Language Ambassadors for various events raising awareness of language courses in your HEI, and languages for careers and study abroad
- Promote and support opportunities for students to participate in foreign language study opportunities and work placements
- Raising awareness of the value of linguistic diversity on campus
- And more…..
