Revised guidelines on language and languages at primary level

Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) are delighted to launch revised guidelines for primary schools in the area of language and languages in school.

Having originally launched in 2021, the guidelines are designed to help principals and teachers respond to the challenges of the Primary Language Curriculum. They encourage a communicative approach to the teaching of Irish, explain how you can include the home languages of EAL pupils in classroom activities, and take account of the addition of a modern foreign language to stages three and four of the curriculum. The second part of this revised edition offers practical suggestions for the four stages of the curriculum in turn. This makes the guidelines an easy-to-use resource when preparing lessons for a particular class.
