Say Yes to Languages 2026/27 Applications Open
Primary schools are invited to express their interest in participating in Say Yes to Languages 2026/2027, a 10-week module that supports schools as they prepare for the integration of modern foreign languages within the redeveloped Primary Language Curriculum. More than 1,900 primary schools have taken part in Say Yes to Languages since it began in schools in 2020/2021.
The module is now entering its sixth year and will continue to be available to pupils in 5th and 6th class for the 2026/2027 school year, maximising reach across senior classes.
This phase includes more professional learning opportunities for teachers to upskill in foreign languages, as well as grants to support the employment of visiting teachers or tutors in the short term.
Over the past five years of Say Yes to Languages, participating schools have introduced a wide range of languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, ISL, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Tamil, and Ukrainian.
Say Yes to Languages is administered by Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI)/Languages Connect on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth. The Languages Connect website hosts a dedicated hub for the module, with a wide range of teaching and learning resources available in both English and Irish. Schools are further supported through PPLI/Languages Connect led training and information sessions for teachers and school representatives.
For further details and a link to the application form, please consult Circular 0035/2026 and visit the dedicated Say Yes to Languages page on the Languages Connect website.
