Ms. Grochola also encouraged students to actively use their languages both within their communities and in everyday life beyond the classroom.

The day continued with a vibrant talent show, featuring performances that celebrated students’ cultures including Lithuanian, Polish, and Romanian songs, a student band performing a Russian-language song and a traditional Romanian folk dance called ‘Dansul Pinguinului’ (Penguin Dance). A beautiful Chinese dance was also performed by two students in traditional Hanfu attire.

Students also took part in a language-themed quiz, testing their knowledge of world languages, customs, and cultural facts, which was a big hit, with prizes awarded to the top scorers. To round out the day, students and teachers brought in traditional food, drinks and snacks to share with their peers.

Students described the event as a great way to share their cultures while learning more about others. Many appreciated the chance to use their heritage languages in a fun and meaningful setting, while also building friendships through the language and culture.

The dedication of the PPLI Development Officers who teach the classes was instrumental to the event’s success, as they enthusiastically prepared and participated in every aspect of the day.

It was the second year of a Multicultural Day celebration for the Leaving Certificate Saturday Classes and with continued rise in registrations, PPLI looks forward to working with students and teachers to organise the next Multicultural Day!
