Japan Quiz Night 2026

Japan Quiz Night 2026

The annual Japan Quiz Night took place yesterday, Thursday 12 March, with roughly 100 Transition Year students participating across five locations: Gorey Community School, Our Lady’s Bower Athlone, Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Cork (UCC), and University of Limerick (UL).

The event is co-organised by Languages Connect and Japanese departments in TCD, UCC and UL, and is supported by the Embassy of Japan in Ireland and the Japan Foundation. It promotes the learning of Japanese in post-primary schools across the country and proved to be a huge success with students, especially those from Villiers School, Limerick, who won first prize on the night.

Students answered questions about all aspects of Japanese language and culture, including food, geography, sports and popular culture, to be in with the chance of winning a selection of prizes.

The team from Villiers School, as first-place winners, will enjoy a three-month subscription to a Japanese snack box service.

Students from St Flannan’s College, Ennis, and Maryfield College, Dublin, also enjoyed success, winning second and third prizes respectively.
