Non-curricular Leaving Certificate Ukrainian
Ukrainian has been available as a non-curricular examination paper for the Leaving Certificate since 2025.
What are non-curricular languages?
Alongside curricular languages such as French, German and Polish, the Leaving Certificate allows candidates to be assessed in certain non-curricular languages. These languages are typically not taught as school subjects and, with the exception of Ukrainian, are languages of European Union member states. The assessment comprises reading and written components only. Eligibility criteria are set out on the State Examinations Commission website.
Information Sheets
See the information sheets below for more information on Ukrainian as a non-curricular Leaving Certificate examination paper.
Information Sessions
To support students interested in taking the Ukrainian Leaving Certificate exam, we host an annual online information session, usually in October. The session provides guidance on what the exam involves, who can take it, how to register, and where to find past papers and marking schemes. Further details and registration information will be shared closer to the date.
Language Mats
Classroom language mats are available in a range of languages, including Ukrainian, and aim to support students in developing familiarity with everyday classroom language.
Visit our language mat section to download and print, or to order hard copies of the mats. For Irish versions, visit language mats as gaeilge.
