Post Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI)

PPLI provides expertise and support for foreign languages education in Ireland. Its focus is on further diversifying, expanding and enhancing the opportunities for students learning foreign languages.

PPLI supports teaching and learning at second level with a huge variety of teaching and learning resources, regular Communities of Practice in locations nationwide, Teacher CPD, support for Intercultural Awareness. PPLI also organise and provide teachers for lesser taught languages and Saturday classes in a growing number of languages. For more information on any of PPLI supports, visit PPLI.ie

Language teacher upskilling programmes

The MFL Teacher Upskilling Scheme was developed under the Languages Connect Strategy to draw out the existing, unused ‘dormant’ language capacity in our schools. The scheme was aimed at language teachers qualified in a language they are not teaching or are not teaching to full capacity. MFL teachers in French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian languages are currently availing of the upskilling scheme.

Teacher Professional Network Scheme (TPNs)

The Teacher Education Section (TES) of the Department of Education has established a supplementary funding scheme, TPN, to support the work of Teachers’ Groups and Associations (TGAs) which afford Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and professional peer support to all Post Primary teachers.
