Say Yes to Languages Kicks off for Fourth Year
Primary Module Continues for Fourth Year
Over 1,300 schools will take part in the Say Yes to Languages module during the 2024/2025 school year in what is to be the fourth year of the module.
Say Yes to Languages looks to introduce a Modern Foreign Language or Irish Sign Language to pupils from third to sixth class and this year, approximately 89,000 pupils are set to take part. Languages selected by schools this year include Arabic, Dutch, French, German, ISL, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and Ukrainian, and will be taught over a 10 week period.
Term 1, which begins today, will see over 650 schools participating in the module for a duration of ten weeks. Many of last year’s participants reapplied to take part in 2024/2025 with pupils looking forward to continuing their language learning journey.
The module will now be facilitated across two school terms. Term dates for 24/25 are as follows:
Term 1 will run from September 30th to February 7th 2024.
Term 2 will run from February 24th to June 13th 2025.
Resource packs, which have been developed and provided to participating schools by Languages Connect, complement the online resources which will aid in the implementation of the module. The packs include fun items like Language Passports, posters, stickers and language fold-outs to help engage the pupils.
